Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating
A lazy, incompetent middle school teacher who hates her job and her students is forced to return to her job to make enough money for a boob job after her rich fiancé dumps her.
Bad Teacher is a fairly formulaic raunchy comedy that coasts on its premise of an anti-hero educator. Cameron Diaz commits to the unlikable role with some energy, and the supporting cast (Justin Timberlake, Jason Segel) adds moments of amusement, but the acting is uneven overall. Cinematography is workmanlike with nothing visually distinctive. The plot follows predictable beats without subverting expectations in any meaningful way, and the ending wraps up too neatly for a film that spent its runtime celebrating bad behavior. Novelty is limited — while the 'horrible person as protagonist' angle had some freshness post-Bad Santa, the execution is fairly derivative and the film doesn't push far enough to be truly distinctive.
