Otherhood is a pleasant but formulaic mother-son dramedy that leans heavily on familiar road-trip and empty-nest tropes. The three leads (Angela Bassett, Patricia Arquette, Felicity Huffman) bring enough warmth and chemistry to elevate the material above its predictable script, though the film rarely surprises in plot or visual style. NYC provides a serviceable backdrop but the cinematography is TV-movie standard. The ending resolves conflicts in a tidy, expected fashion. Overall a comfortable but unremarkable watch.
