A wooden puppet embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy.
The 2022 live-action Disney remake of Pinocchio offers little that distinguishes it from both the beloved 1940 animated original and the competing Guillermo del Toro version released the same year. The plot follows the familiar beats without meaningful reinvention, and the CGI-heavy production lacks the visual warmth of its source material. Tom Hanks delivers a committed performance as Geppetto, but most other characters feel underwritten or poorly served by the digital aesthetic. The ending rushes its emotional payoff and changes certain elements without earning the departures. As a live-action remake it is largely derivative, adding little novelty to a story audiences know well.
