Michael Moore's provocative documentary explores the two most important questions of the Trump Era: How did we get here, and how do we get out.
Michael Moore's follow-up to Fahrenheit 9/11 turns its lens on Trump's rise and the broader failures of American democracy, incorporating the Flint water crisis and Parkland shooting as case studies. The film is characteristically Moore-ian in its provocations and theatrical stunts, but feels scattershot in structure compared to his best work. The cinematography is functional documentary fare with no particular visual distinction. Acting is irrelevant as a category but Moore's on-screen presence is divisive. The ending struggles to land a coherent call to action amid the film's sprawling ambitions. Novelty is moderate — Moore's voice is unmistakable but the formula is familiar, and the film doesn't break new ground the way Roger & Me or Bowling for Columbine did.
