All grown up in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor must lead the resistance of humans against the increasingly dominating militaristic robots. But when Marcus Wright appears, his existence confuses the mission as Connor tries to determine whether Wright has come from the future or the past -- and whether he's friend or foe.
Terminator Salvation moves the franchise into a full post-apocalyptic war setting, which is a fresh visual context, but squanders it with a muddled script, underdeveloped characters, and a Marcus Wright twist that lacks meaningful payoff. Christian Bale's John Connor is oddly sidelined in his own story, and the acting is broadly functional at best. The cinematography has some gritty, competent industrial imagery but nothing truly distinctive. The ending feels rushed and emotionally hollow, failing to deliver the dramatic weight the setup promised. As a sequel, it recycles franchise iconography without the wit or tension of the earlier films, making it a mostly derivative and disappointing entry in the series.
