Political strategist Dominic Cummings leads a popular but controversial campaign to convince British voters to leave the European Union from 2015 up until the present day.
Brexit: The Uncivil War is elevated almost entirely by Benedict Cumberbatch's commanding, nuanced portrayal of Dominic Cummings, which gives the film an energy it might otherwise lack. The plot is serviceable but constrained by its need to compress complex political events into a TV drama format, resulting in some oversimplification. The cinematography is competent but unremarkable for a TV movie. The subject matter—a dramatization of a recent political campaign—has some topical freshness, though the docudrama format itself is well-worn. The ending feels rushed and somewhat anticlimactic, failing to deliver a satisfying dramatic resolution or meaningful reflection on the broader consequences of the events depicted.
