An alliance of evil-doers, led by Frieda, looks to take over Fairy Tale Land. But when Ella realizes her stepmother is out to ruin her storybook existence, she takes a dramatic turn and blossoms into the leader of the resistance effort.
Happily N'Ever After is a derivative fairy tale parody that fails to distinguish itself in any meaningful way. The plot is a thin, predictable riff on Cinderella with an 'empowerment' twist that feels forced rather than earned. The voice acting is serviceable but unremarkable, with a cast (Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Sigourney Weaver) largely phoning it in. The CGI animation is noticeably below the standard set by contemporaries like Shrek or DreamWorks productions, lacking visual flair or memorable imagery. The concept of fairy tale characters rebelling against their prescribed endings had been done better elsewhere, making this feel derivative rather than inventive. The ending wraps up predictably with little emotional payoff. A thoroughly mediocre effort across the board.
