A hardened gun-for-hire's latest mission becomes a soul-searching race to survive when he's sent into Bangladesh to rescue a drug lord's kidnapped son.
Extraction is a serviceable action-thriller elevated primarily by its stunning cinematography and action choreography — Sam Hargrave's background as a stunt coordinator translates into extraordinarily fluid, immersive long-take sequences that stand out in the genre. Chris Hemsworth delivers a committed physical performance, and the supporting cast is solid. However, the plot is thin and derivative, hitting familiar broken-hero-redemption beats without adding much new — the kidnapping rescue premise and backstory trauma feel well-worn. Novelty is limited; while the Dhaka setting gives it some texture, the overall formula is standard one-man-army fare. The ending lands adequately, offering an ambiguous grace note that works emotionally even if it feels a touch convenient.
