Four undying warriors who've secretly protected humanity for centuries become targeted for their mysterious powers just as they discover a new immortal.
The Old Guard is a competent comic-book action film elevated primarily by Charlize Theron's committed lead performance and a reasonably fresh take on immortality mythology with emotional weight. The plot is fairly formulaic — a covert group of super-soldiers hunted by a corporate villain — and the action choreography, while functional, is not visually distinctive. The immortality concept and LGBTQ representation give it a modest edge in novelty, but the villain and third-act resolution feel rushed and underdeveloped. The ending leans heavily into sequel-baiting rather than providing satisfying closure.
