Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating
A deadly female assassin comes out of hiding to protect the daughter that she gave up years before, while on the run from dangerous men.
The Mother follows a well-worn action-thriller template—elite killer protecting estranged child—that offers little narrative surprise. Jennifer Lopez brings committed physicality to the lead role and elevates the material above its generic bones, but the supporting cast and character writing are thin. Visually the film is competent but unremarkable Netflix action fare, with adequately staged set pieces that lack distinctive style. The premise recycles familiar beats from films like Colombiana and Haywire without adding a fresh angle, and the resolution feels rushed and emotionally underbaked, failing to pay off the mother-daughter relationship it built toward.
