The Quartile Take

Uri: The Surgical Strike is a competent and patriotic war drama based on the 2016 surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army. The plot follows the real events closely and delivers a straightforward but engaging narrative with solid pacing, though it doesn't offer much dramatic complexity beyond the mission itself. Acting is serviceable with Vicky Kaushal delivering a committed lead performance that elevates the material. Cinematography is functional and energetic during action sequences but rarely transcends standard war-film aesthetics. Novelty is moderate — the subject matter of a covert military operation based on real events is relatively fresh for Bollywood, though the execution follows familiar genre conventions. The ending, tied to the real-life successful strike, provides satisfying closure but is somewhat telegraphed. Overall a solid, above-average entry in the Indian war genre without being exceptional in any single dimension.
