Spider-Man 3 (2007)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

The seemingly invincible Spider-Man goes up against an all-new crop of villains—including the shape-shifting Sandman. While Spider-Man’s superpowers are altered by an alien organism, his alter ego, Peter Parker, deals with nemesis Eddie Brock and also gets caught up in a love triangle.

The Quartile Take

Spider-Man 3 is widely regarded as a disappointing conclusion to Raimi's trilogy, suffering from an overstuffed plot that tries to juggle too many villains (Sandman, Venom, New Goblin) and too many subplots, resulting in tonal incoherence and underdeveloped character arcs. The acting is uneven — Maguire and Dunst feel tired, and Topher Grace is miscast as Venom. Visually, the film delivers some impressive set pieces and action sequences, maintaining solid production values. Novelty is low — it recycles the redemption arc and love-triangle beats from earlier entries without fresh ideas, and the symbiote storyline feels squandered. The ending provides some emotional closure with Harry's death and the forgiveness theme, rising slightly above the muddle of the middle act.
