Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating
A man tries to make his wife fall in love with him again, after waking up in an alternate reality where she never knew him.
Love at Second Sight is a charming French romantic comedy with a well-executed alternate-reality premise. The plot is familiar in broad strokes—man must re-win his wife's heart—but the alternate-universe framing and quirky character details (pretending to be gay, ping pong, dementia subplot) give it personality. Acting from François Civil and Joséphine Japy is warm and appealing without being exceptional. Cinematography is competent and pleasant but unremarkable for the genre. Novelty is moderate: the alternate-reality conceit adds freshness but the emotional beats follow a well-worn rom-com path. The ending is satisfying and emotionally earned, though not surprising. A solidly above-average entry in its genre without excelling in any single dimension.
