Largo Winch II (2011)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Propelled to the head of the W Group after the death of his adoptive father, Largo Winch decides, to everyone's surprise, to sell it, and use the proceeds to create an ambitious humanitarian foundation. But on the very same day, he finds himself accused of crimes against humanity by a mysterious witness. To prove his innocence, Largo will have to retrace the steps of his past life, in the heart of the Burmese jungle.

The Quartile Take

Largo Winch II is a competent but unremarkable European action-thriller sequel. The plot juggles corporate intrigue and humanitarian themes against a Burmese jungle backdrop but struggles to balance its dual storylines coherently, resulting in a muddled narrative that rarely grips. Acting is serviceable at best, with Tomer Sisley a passable lead but the supporting cast offering little depth. Cinematography is the relative highlight, with some attractive location shooting in Southeast Asia providing visual variety. Novelty is low — as a by-the-numbers sequel adapting a well-known Belgian comic, it recycles familiar Euro-action conventions without adding a distinctive voice. The ending resolves its threads in a perfunctory, unsatisfying manner, leaving little impact. Overall a forgettable mid-tier action sequel that will satisfy franchise fans but few others.
