Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating
To protect an 8-year-old girl, a dangerous assassin reunites with her mother and her lethal associates to take down a ruthless crime syndicate and its army of henchmen.
Gunpowder Milkshake is visually arresting with a neon-soaked, hyper-stylized aesthetic that gives it genuine cinematographic flair — bold color palette, inventive action staging, and a distinct comic-book sensibility. The all-female ensemble (Karen Gillan, Lena Headey, Angela Bassett, Michelle Yeoh, Carla Gugino) commits with charisma and professionalism. However, the plot is thin and derivative, leaning heavily on John Wick-style world-building without the depth or consistency, and the character motivations feel underdeveloped. The ending wraps up too neatly given the tonal and narrative messiness that precedes it, feeling unearned rather than satisfying. Novelty is moderate — its aesthetic is distinctive but the underlying template is familiar action-revenge fare.
