While working a job at an exclusive ski resort to support her Dad, Kim learns to snowboard and is so good at it that she enters a competition with a huge cash prize. She has to dig deep to overcome her fears, but her life gets more complicated through her spoken-for boss, Jonny.
Chalet Girl is a pleasant but formulaic rom-com that blends the ski-resort setting with a predictable underdog sports narrative. The plot hits every expected beat — working-class girl finds romance with wealthy boss, discovers hidden talent, overcomes personal trauma, enters competition — without surprising the audience. The acting is competent, with Felicity Jones bringing charm and Ed Westwick providing adequate romantic tension, elevating the material slightly. Cinematography makes reasonable use of the Alpine scenery but never transcends standard glossy rom-com visuals. Novelty is low; the fish-out-of-water class-divide romance combined with a sports competition arc is thoroughly well-trodden, and the snowboarding setting doesn't add enough distinctiveness to overcome the derivative structure. The ending resolves neatly but predictably, tying up both the romantic and competition threads in ways audiences can see coming from the first act.
