A spoof of buddy cop movies where two very different cops are forced to team up on a new reality based T.V. cop show.
Showtime is a formulaic buddy cop comedy that spoofs the genre without bringing much freshness to it. The premise of cops on a reality TV show had some novelty at the time but the execution is largely by-the-numbers. De Niro and Murphy have some chemistry that elevates the material, but the script gives them little to work with. Visually unremarkable, and the ending resolves predictably. A middling, forgettable entry in the genre.
