After destroying the city of Townsville in a game of tag, a trio of superpowered little girls must redeem themselves by stopping a vengeful monkey's plot for world domination.
The Powerpuff Girls Movie is a competent big-screen expansion of the beloved Cartoon Network series, serving as an origin story that fans and newcomers could enjoy. The plot is functional and charming, fleshing out the girls' beginnings and Mojo Jojo's rise as a villain with reasonable dramatic stakes for a kids' film. Acting/voice work is serviceable but not particularly standout, with Craig McCracken's cast delivering performances consistent with the TV show rather than elevating them. Cinematography is above average for a 2002 animated feature — the film's aesthetic is faithful to the show's bold, flat-color Craig McCracken style, with some genuinely kinetic action sequences. Novelty is moderate; while the show itself was distinctive, the movie largely repackages the TV formula on a larger canvas without introducing a truly singular cinematic vision.
