Reuben Feffer is a guy who's spent his entire life playing it safe. Polly Prince is irresistible as a free-spirit who lives for the thrill of the moment. When these two comically mismatched souls collide, Reuben's world is turned upside down, as he makes an uproarious attempt to change his life from middle-of-the-road to totally-out-there.
Along Came Polly is a fairly formulaic opposites-attract romcom that doesn't distinguish itself from the crowd. The plot hits every expected beat of the genre without subversion or surprise. Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston bring some charm and comedic timing to their roles, elevating the material slightly, and Philip Seymour Hoffman delivers a memorably funny supporting turn. Cinematography is workmanlike rom-com fare with nothing visually distinctive. The concept and execution are largely derivative of better films in the genre, and the ending resolves predictably. A likable but unremarkable entry in early-2000s romantic comedy output.
