Two top CIA operatives wage an epic battle against one another after they discover they are dating the same woman.
This Means War is a glossy but shallow rom-com action hybrid. The central conceit of two CIA agents competing over the same woman is fun on paper but squandered by a formulaic execution that never commits fully to either the action or romantic comedy genres. The performances from Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy, and Chris Pine are charming enough to keep things watchable, but the script gives them little to work with. Cinematography is competent and slick in the McG house style but unremarkable. The love triangle resolution feels rushed and unsatisfying, and the film offers little that feels fresh or distinctive in a crowded genre space.
