The Quartile Take

Rurouni Kenshin: The Final delivers spectacular, meticulously choreographed sword fights and visually striking cinematography that push the live-action chambara genre to its limits — easily the film's standout achievement. The Enishi arc is emotionally resonant and darker than prior installments, giving the plot solid dramatic weight rooted in Kenshin's guilt. Acting is serviceable-to-good, with Takeru Satoh commanding as Kenshin, though supporting players are less nuanced. Novelty is constrained by the film being the fourth in the franchise, faithfully adapting a beloved manga arc without significantly reinventing the series' formula — it executes brilliantly but doesn't surprise. The ending, while emotionally satisfying for fans, leans on franchise-familiar beats and sets up The Beginning rather than fully resolving on its own terms.
