A reformed hunter becomes involved in a deadly game of cat and mouse when he and the local sheriff set out to track a vicious killer who may have kidnapped his daughter years ago.
The Silencing is a competent but formulaic thriller that hits familiar serial killer genre beats without much distinction. The small-town setting and reformed hunter angle provide mild interest, but the plot mechanics are predictable and the mystery resolution feels underwhelming. Acting is serviceable with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau bringing some presence, and the woodland cinematography is decent enough. The ending disappoints with convenient resolutions and lacks the payoff the setup promises. Novelty is low as it recycles well-worn thriller tropes without a distinctive voice or execution.
