A shy high schooler in Kyoto meets a man claiming to be his future self, who tells him he’s hacked into the past to save their first love.
Hello World is a visually striking anime film with impressive CGI-blended animation that elevates its Kyoto setting into something memorable and beautiful. The premise of a future self hacking into a recorded past to save a first love is intriguing science fiction, blending romance with time-travel mechanics competently if not altogether originally. The voice performances are solid and emotionally grounded for the material. However, the plot leans on familiar anime tropes—shy boy, idealized romance, paradox-laden time travel—and the narrative logic becomes strained under scrutiny, particularly in its later acts. The ending attempts an emotional and conceptual payoff that partially lands but feels somewhat convoluted, leaving the emotional resolution a little unsatisfying. Cinematography/animation is the clear standout, with the visual craft being genuinely exceptional for its hybrid style.
