Covert security company Vanguard is the last hope of survival for an accountant after he is targeted by the world's deadliest mercenary organization.
Vanguard is a Jackie Chan action vehicle that delivers decent globe-trotting spectacle and some fun set pieces, but the plot is formulaic and predictable, hitting every expected beat of the 'protect the target from mercenaries' thriller. Acting is serviceable but largely unremarkable, with Chan himself somewhat restrained compared to his peak work. Cinematography has some visual energy in the action sequences but is largely standard for the genre. Novelty is low — this is a by-the-numbers espionage action film with little that distinguishes it from dozens of similar productions. The ending wraps up without much surprise or resonance, feeling perfunctory rather than satisfying.
