An ex-soldier, a teen and a cop collide in New Orleans as they hunt for the source behind a dangerous new pill that grants users temporary superpowers.
Project Power has an intriguing premise — a pill that grants random superpowers for five minutes — but struggles to fully capitalize on it. The plot follows a fairly generic three-strand structure that converges predictably, with the villain's motivations and third-act revelations feeling undercooked. Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt bring genuine charisma and elevate the material above its script, while Dominique Fishback is a standout. Visually the film is competent but unremarkable, with some inventive power-sequence moments offset by murky action staging. The concept itself is distinctive enough to earn a modest novelty score, blending superhero tropes with a street-level drug thriller in a New Orleans setting that adds texture. The ending resolves too neatly and rushes its emotional beats, failing to land the impact the setup promises.
