The Red Ribbon Army, an evil organization that was once destroyed by Goku in the past, has been reformed by a group of people who have created new and mightier Androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2, and seek vengeance against Goku and his family.
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero shifts the spotlight to Gohan and Piccolo, which is a refreshing change from the Goku-centric formula, and the CG animation style is competent if divisive. The Red Ribbon Army revival is nostalgic but fairly formulaic, recycling villain archetypes and escalating power reveals that feel routine for the franchise. The new androids Gamma 1 and 2 add some charm and moral nuance. The ending delivers fan-pleasing transformations (Beast Gohan, Orange Piccolo) that satisfy the target audience but follow the well-worn Dragon Ball pattern of last-minute power-ups. Acting in the Japanese dub is solid and experienced. Cinematography within the CG framework is serviceable but not exceptional. Overall a competent, enjoyable entry for fans that lacks genuine freshness beyond its protagonist shift.
