In a world where supervillains are commonplace, two estranged childhood best friends reunite after one devises a treatment that gives them powers to protect their city.
Thunder Force is a largely formulaic superhero comedy that fails to capitalize on its satirical premise. The plot is predictable and poorly structured, leaning on tired buddy-comedy tropes without meaningful subversion. Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer have natural chemistry but are let down by weak material and underdeveloped characters. The cinematography is functional at best, with action sequences that lack visual flair or inventiveness. The concept of two middle-aged women receiving superpowers had genuine comedic potential, but the execution is generic and the jokes rarely land. The ending is unsatisfying and rushed, offering little payoff for the setup. Across the board, a below-average-to-average effort in every dimension.
