Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating
While a diamond advocate attempts to steal a collection of diamonds, troubles arise when he realises he’s not the only one after the collection.
A Fish Called Wanda is elevated primarily by its extraordinary ensemble performances — Cleese, Curtis, Kline (Oscar-winning), and Curtis spark with comic chemistry that is genuinely exceptional. The plot is a reasonably clever crime-comedy caper but not especially intricate or surprising, leaning on character chaos more than structural ingenuity. Cinematography is functional and workmanlike — it serves the comedy without distinctive visual ambition. Novelty is moderate: the transatlantic culture-clash screwball tone gives it a distinct flavor and the Cleese-Palin pairing feels singular, but it ultimately operates within recognizable farce conventions. The ending is satisfying and funny but not particularly memorable beyond the steamroller gag payoff.
