The lives of several couples and singles in New York intertwine over the course of New Year's Eve.
New Year's Eve is a formulaic ensemble romantic comedy that recycles the same interlocking-storylines structure as Valentine's Day with almost no originality. The plot is thin and predictable, juggling too many characters without giving any real depth. The large cast of recognizable stars provides some charm but is largely wasted on shallow material. Cinematography is competent but generic, offering nothing distinctive about New York beyond postcard visuals. The novelty is essentially nonexistent — it's a near carbon copy of a formula already done better elsewhere. The ending ties everything up with saccharine predictability.
