Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating
A young single mother is held captive along with her two children by a violent ex and must plot their escape before it’s too late.
Shut In is a competent home-invasion thriller with a solid central performance from Rainey Qualley, but it largely operates within familiar genre conventions. The plot is straightforward and functional, delivering tension without major surprises. The cinematography is unremarkable, relying on standard claustrophobic setups without distinctive visual flair. Novelty is low as the premise of a trapped mother protecting her children from a violent ex is well-worn territory with little fresh execution. The ending provides adequate resolution without being particularly memorable or subversive.
