When Pippa and Thomas move into their dream apartment, they notice that their windows look directly into the apartment opposite – inviting them to witness the volatile relationship of the attractive couple across the street. But what starts as a simple curiosity turns into full-blown obsession with increasingly dangerous consequences.
The Voyeurs is a stylish but somewhat derivative erotic thriller that leans heavily on Hitchcockian voyeurism tropes without adding much new. The plot is serviceable with a few twists that elevate it above average, though the execution is uneven and the characters feel thinly written. Acting is underwhelming — Sydney Sweeney shows promise but the ensemble lacks depth, and some performances feel wooden. Cinematography is competent and visually polished, with Montreal's architecture used effectively, but nothing particularly distinctive. Novelty is low given the well-trodden voyeurism territory (Rear Window comparisons are inevitable and unflattering), and the erotic thriller genre revival doesn't bring fresh ideas. The ending has a darkly satisfying twist that gives the film more credit than the journey earned, landing it slightly above average in that category.
