The Quartile Take

Don't Look Up is a broad satire about society's inability to confront existential threats, clearly coded as climate change allegory. The ensemble acting is genuinely exceptional — DiCaprio, Lawrence, Blanchett, Hill, and Streep all deliver committed, often hilarious performances that elevate the material. The plot is serviceable as a satirical vehicle but leans heavily on escalating absurdity rather than narrative sophistication, and its messaging can feel blunt and repetitive. Cinematographically it's unremarkable — competent but not distinctive for a major Netflix production. Novelty is moderate: the satirical disaster-movie premise is clever but the targets (media, tech billionaires, political denial) are well-worn, and the execution lacks the surgical precision of great satire. The ending is emotionally effective and earns some genuine poignancy amid the chaos, but the post-credits stinger undercuts the tone slightly.
