Plane (2023)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

After a heroic job of successfully landing his storm-damaged aircraft in a war zone, a fearless pilot finds himself between the agendas of multiple militias planning to take the plane and its passengers hostage.

The Quartile Take

Plane is a solid but formulaic action-thriller that delivers on its premise without distinguishing itself. The plot follows a well-worn hostage/survival template with few surprises — competent but predictable. Gerard Butler brings his usual gruff charisma and Mike Colter is a welcome presence, lifting the acting above the genre average. Cinematography is serviceable and location shooting in the Philippines adds some texture, but there's nothing visually memorable. The film is largely derivative of similar one-man-army survival thrillers, earning a low novelty score. The ending resolves cleanly but without any particular punch or cleverness, feeling like a routine wrap-up. Overall it's a watchable genre entry that stays comfortably in its lane.
