A group of criminals are brought together under mysterious circumstances and have to work together to uncover what's really going on when their simple job goes completely sideways.

The Quartile Take

No Sudden Move is a stylish Soderbergh crime ensemble set in 1950s Detroit, distinguished chiefly by its exceptional wide-angle anamorphic cinematography and a stacked cast (Benicio del Toro, Don Cheadle, Jon Hamm, Ray Liotta) delivering uniformly strong performances. The plot starts as a tight noir caper but unravels into a somewhat sprawling conspiracy that loses momentum as it expands. The ending, while thematically resonant in its cynicism about power and corporate corruption, feels abrupt and undercooked relative to the intrigue built up. Novelty is moderate — Soderbergh's formal signature is unmistakable but the genre beats are familiar neo-noir territory.
