The Dukes of Hazzard (2005)

Quartile rating: 5/10 · 2 ratings

Cousins, Bo and Luke Duke, with the help of their eye-catching cousin, Daisy and moonshine-running Uncle Jesse, try and save the family farm from being destroyed by Hazzard County's corrupt commissioner, Boss Hogg. Their efforts constantly find the 'Duke Boys' eluding authorities in 'The General Lee', their 1969 orange Dodge Charger that keeps them one step ahead of the dimwitted antics of the small southern town's Sheriff, Roscoe P. Coltrane.

The Quartile Take

A formulaic big-screen adaptation of the beloved TV series that adds little to the source material. The plot is thin and predictable, essentially a string of car chases and slapstick gags loosely tied together by the farm-saving premise. The acting is broadly comedic but mostly one-note, with Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville leaning heavily on their established personas rather than developing the characters. Cinematography is competent but unremarkable, functional for the action sequences without any distinctive visual flair. Novelty is low — this is a straightforward TV-to-film translation that recycles the same beats as the original show without reinvention or a distinctive cinematic voice. The ending resolves predictably with no surprises. The General Lee remains the most charismatic presence throughout.
