Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

The Quartile Take

Book of Secrets is a fairly formulaic sequel that recycles the treasure-hunt template of the original without meaningfully expanding on it. The plot mechanics are familiar—clue leads to clue across iconic landmarks—but the stakes feel manufactured and the conspiracy involving the President's secret book strains credibility even by this franchise's standards. Nicolas Cage and the ensemble cast deliver serviceable performances with some charm, but nobody is stretching here. Cinematography is competent blockbuster fare with nothing visually distinctive. Novelty is low given how closely it mirrors its predecessor's formula without adding a fresh angle. The ending resolves cleanly but without surprise or emotional resonance. A watchable but unremarkable action-adventure sequel.
