The Art of Flight (2011)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

Iconic snowboarder Travis Rice and friends redefine what is possible in the mountains. Experience the highs, as new tricks are landed and new zones opened, alongside the lows, where avalanches, accidents, and wrong-turns strike.

The Quartile Take

The Art of Flight is primarily a showcase film — plot and acting are minimal by documentary design, but the cinematography is genuinely exceptional and set a new benchmark for action sports filmmaking. The aerial and mountain footage is stunning, with RED Epic cameras capturing snowboarding in remote locations rarely seen before. The riding itself is extraordinary, though the documentary format keeps narrative depth limited. Novelty is solid — it elevated the genre visually — but it follows the established 'rider crew goes to epic locations' format. The ending wraps satisfyingly but without dramatic revelation.
