After accidentally crash-landing in 2022, time-traveling fighter pilot Adam Reed teams up with his 12-year-old self on a mission to save the future.
The Adam Project leans on familiar time-travel tropes and a well-worn emotional hook — the protagonist bonding with their younger self — without adding much new to the genre. Ryan Reynolds delivers his trademark witty charisma and the cast (including Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner) is likable, lifting the film above its formulaic script. Visually it's competent blockbuster fare with solid VFX but nothing distinctive. The plot is predictable and the villain motivation thin, while the ending goes for sentimental closure in a fairly conventional way. It's an enjoyable but unremarkable crowd-pleaser that doesn't leave a lasting impression.
