Rogue is a formulaic action-adventure that blends a hostage rescue mission with a rogue lion threat in remote Africa. The plot is predictable and derivative, mixing familiar mercenary tropes with a creature-feature element without much originality. Megan Fox leads but the acting is generally serviceable at best, with flat characterization across the board. The African setting and some of the lion sequences provide decent cinematography with reasonable production value. The novelty is low — the premise sounds intriguing but execution follows well-worn paths of stranded soldier and predator survival films. The ending is unsatisfying and formulaic, offering little payoff for the modest investment.
