A Nice Girl Like You (2020)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Lucy Neal is thrown for a loop when she is accused of being too inhibited by her ex-boyfriend. In an effort to prove him wrong, Lucy creates a rather wild to-do list that sends her on a whirlwind and surprising journey of self-discovery, friendship, and new love.

The Quartile Take

A Nice Girl Like You is a fairly formulaic rom-com built on the well-worn 'bucket list of self-discovery' premise. The plot hits predictable beats and offers little surprise beyond its mildly raunchy conceit. Acting is serviceable with Lucy Hale bringing some charm to the lead role, keeping it above average. Cinematography is unremarkable, typical of mid-budget romantic comedies with no distinctive visual style. Novelty is low as the premise, while slightly edgy in subject matter, follows a recycled structure seen in countless similar films. The ending resolves in the expected crowd-pleasing fashion without much earned emotional payoff.
