An acclaimed college hoops coach is demoted to a junior varsity team after a public meltdown.
Rebound is a thoroughly formulaic sports comedy that hits every predictable beat: disgraced coach finds redemption through lovable misfit kids, learns humility, wins the big game. Martin Lawrence mugs through the lead role with his usual broad physical comedy but the material gives him little to work with. Cinematography is functional and unremarkable TV-movie level. The film offers virtually nothing distinctive — it's a by-the-numbers mashup of similar redemption-through-youth-sports comedies (Bad News Bears, etc.) with no unique voice or craft. The ending is exactly what you'd expect, telegraphed from the first scene.
