Sean Anderson partners with his mom's boyfriend on a mission to find his grandfather, who is thought to be missing on a mythical island.
Journey 2 is a light, family-friendly adventure sequel that retreads the formula of its predecessor with little added originality. The plot is thin and predictable, leaning on familiar tropes of mythical island discovery and family bonding. Acting is serviceable but unremarkable, with Dwayne Johnson's charisma carrying much of the film. Cinematography is colorful and vibrant with decent use of 3D-friendly visuals and exotic creature effects, making it the relative highlight. Novelty is low as it's a by-the-numbers sequel with recycled adventure beats. The ending is satisfying enough for its target audience but wholly formulaic.
