Project Silence (2024)

Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating

Due to sudden deteriorating weather conditions, visibility on the Airport Bridge is severely impaired, leaving people stranded and at risk of the bridge collapsing due to a series of chain collisions and explosions. Amidst the chaos, the canine subjects "Echo" from the military experiment "Project Silence," who were being transported in secret, break free, and all human survivors become targets of relentless attacks.

The Quartile Take

Project Silence is a Korean disaster-action-horror hybrid that delivers solid genre thrills but struggles with narrative coherence. The premise—military experiment dogs loose on a fog-shrouded collapsing bridge—is a fun high-concept mashup, earning it modest novelty points for combining disaster movie spectacle with creature-feature horror in a distinctly Korean blockbuster style. The cinematography captures the claustrophobic fog and bridge chaos competently, with some impressive practical and digital set-piece work. Acting is serviceable with committed performances despite thin characterization. The plot, however, leans heavily on clichéd disaster movie archetypes and predictable character beats, and the ending feels rushed and unsatisfying, failing to pay off the tension built throughout.
