Elite athletes and insiders reflect on the Paralympic Games and examine how they impact a global understanding of disability, diversity and excellence.

The Quartile Take

Rising Phoenix is a well-crafted documentary that brings genuine emotional weight and visual ambition to its subject. The cinematography is a standout — the film is shot with the cinematic sweep of a prestige sports drama, giving Paralympic athletes the visual grandeur they deserve and rarely receive. The personal stories of the athletes are compelling and humanizing, though the narrative structure is fairly conventional for the inspirational sports documentary genre. The film's novelty lies more in its subject matter and the powerful platform it gives to disabled athletes than in any radically new documentary form. The ending is satisfying and uplifting without being surprising. Strong overall, but solidly within established documentary conventions.
