The Quartile Take

The Last Kiss is a competent but largely formulaic mid-2000s relationship drama about commitment anxiety and romantic uncertainty. The ensemble cast, including Zach Braff and Rachel Bilson, delivers serviceable performances without standout moments. The cinematography is unremarkable and workmanlike, fitting the indie-lite aesthetic of the era without distinction. The plot covers well-trodden territory of thirty-something men fearing domestic life, offering little that wasn't already familiar from similar films of the period. The ending attempts emotional resolution but feels somewhat pat given the weight of the betrayals depicted. A watchable but derivative American remake of an Italian original that loses much of the source material's rawness.
