An LA vampire hunter has a week to come up with the cash to pay for his kid's tuition and braces. Trying to make a living these days just might kill him.
Day Shift is a competent but formulaic action-horror-comedy that leans heavily on familiar buddy-cop and vampire hunter tropes without adding much new to either genre. The plot is straightforward and predictable, serving mainly as a vehicle for action set pieces. Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco have decent chemistry and the cast (including Snoop Dogg) brings energy, lifting the acting above average. The cinematography is slick and serviceable for a Netflix production but nothing distinctive. The film offers little novelty, recycling well-worn vampire lore and action comedy beats. The ending resolves things neatly but without much surprise or emotional payoff, feeling rushed and conventional.
