Jack Harper is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. His existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

The Quartile Take

Oblivion is visually stunning — Joseph Kosinski crafts a beautifully desolate, pristine post-apocalyptic Earth with exceptional production design and M83's evocative score, earning a genuine 4 for cinematography. The plot borrows heavily from classic sci-fi (Total Recall, Moon, 2001) and its twists, while reasonably executed, feel derivative and telegraphed to genre-savvy viewers, limiting novelty. Tom Cruise delivers a competent but unremarkable lead performance, supported by a solid if underused cast. The ending resolves the mystery but lacks emotional punch — the clone resolution feels convenient rather than earned, deflating the film's more intriguing existential questions.
