Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

The Quartile Take

The Trip is a Norwegian dark comedy-horror that delivers a gleefully nasty premise — two spouses independently plotting to murder each other — executed with genuine black humor and solid performances from Noomi Rapace and Aksel Hennie. The setup is fresh and the tonal balancing act between comedy and visceral horror mostly works. Cinematography is competent and makes good use of the remote cabin setting without being particularly distinctive. The novelty is decent: the his-and-hers murder plot is a fun inversion, though the genre pivot when escaped convicts arrive is a familiar survival-horror structure. The ending loses steam somewhat, leaning into grotesque excess without the sharp wit that distinguished the first half, feeling more conventional than the premise promised.
