Mr. Church reunites the Expendables for what should be an easy paycheck, but when one of their men is murdered on the job, their quest for revenge puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat.
The Expendables 2 is a competent but thoroughly formulaic action sequel. The plot is a thin revenge narrative with no real surprises, and the acting from its ensemble of aging action stars ranges from self-aware camp to wooden delivery. Cinematography is serviceable but unremarkable, leaning on standard action film visual language. The novelty of assembling so many 80s icons was fresher in the first film; here it feels more like a running gag than a genuine concept. The ending is predictable and delivers exactly what genre fans expect, no more. Across the board it lands squarely in below-average to average territory.
