After his family is kidnapped during their sailing trip in Spain, a young Wall Street trader is confronted by the people responsible: intelligence agents looking to recover a mysterious briefcase.
The Cold Light of Day is a generic and forgettable action thriller that offers little to distinguish itself from countless similar espionage kidnapping films. The plot is derivative and predictable, following a well-worn template of an ordinary man thrust into a spy conspiracy. The acting from Henry Cavill and Bruce Willis is underwhelming, with Willis appearing disengaged and Cavill failing to carry the lead role convincingly. The cinematography is competent but unremarkable, making poor use of its Spanish locations. The film offers virtually no novelty, recycling familiar beats from superior films in the genre. The ending is similarly unsatisfying and predictable, wrapping up without any meaningful payoff.
